Strip: Fiberlassing procedures

On to my next step for my FIRST Strip built Kayak...Fiberglassing....As always before I begin each step in building my kayak, I go to NICKS Book and to GUILLEMOT's videos on YOUTUBE to use as a guide and reference for the correct method or any tips. I need alittle help, ideas. or suggestions from you all...since I am getting different methods from the videos vs. the book.....To start with the book states to lay the cloth out on the hull or deck diagonally instead of straight...in other words layed out on a bias....one reason is to save material..which makes since....but the other says that it will wrap around corners easilier...in the GUILLEMOT videos the cloth is always rolled out straight....Question is..does it matter..or make any part of the procedure easier.....The other question is about applying a sealer coat to the wood before the fiberglass...the book recommends it, but again the GUILLEMONT videos never have this step applied..is this a good procedure to do before glassing, or just an added unnecessary step...does it make the glass go on smoother or what....What are your opinions or experience with this.....Thanks for any input that anyone has,,and remember I am a FIRST TIME FIBERGLASSER with no experience, so anything that anyone has to make this a successful step in my build...it would be greatly appreciated......Thanks.......Gordon
