: Regarding thinning out the first coat - how do you go about
: thinning oil-based paints? Unless I'm mistaken, mineral spirits
: or paint thinner will work, but how much?

Every paint company's thinner recommendations are different, do what the paint can calls for. Some thin alot, some not at all, every one seems different.
