: Gorilla Glue seems to have a shelf life once opened. Anybody have
: any way of stopping it from hardening in the bottle? Or does
: anyone know what the solvent is? Nothing seems to work.
: I guess once oxygen gets in there, it's just a matter of time.
: Lessons learned - only buy small bottles.

When I started boat building I used to use Aerolite 306. Mix with water, it set like glass and was hell to sand off. The hardener also reacted with staples and stained, so care was needed.

I then moved to Cascamite. Still had to mix with water, but no hardener required. Also set hard and was a bugger to get off

I used PU glue on a whole boat. If the joints are tight it works really well and has a great bonus of being very easy to scrape off the excess.

The last few builds I have been using titebond III which is much harder to scrape off then the PU, especially on the inside. And is not as gap filling as the old style glues. It gives more open time though, so less rush to fit planks.

These days I still use PU, but only for the coaming decoration. Because it sets so fast and is real easy to clean up (see pic).

Until something else comes along almost everyone seems to have settled on the Titebond. I guess ease of use counts for a lot. Long shelf life, easy application, good adhesion, pleasant colour for wood, inexpensive, good water resistance, cleans up with water, easy to find in shops. What's not to like, except hard to scrape off if one does not clean up before it hardens?

Was that boring enough for you guys?
