: I love the port orford and am blessed to have Emmer Brothers Cedar
: Outlet just down the road from me. I have a pergola from Port
: Orford have used it on some foot bridges as well as the kayaks
: and SUPS. I could fondle entire bunks of Port Orford in the lot
: but I usually sniff the indoor racks where the clear stuff
: hides. I'm looking at a receipt on my desk, I bought a 2x6 12'
: for $36 and a 2x4 14' for $42. BUT I haven't smelled salt water
: in months and it did snow here today. So your home has some
: perks too. Travis

Wow, I just Googled Emmer Brothers Cedar. Nice resource! I think I paid over $100 for a 2x6x16, but I have to say it is perfectly clear, tight-grain, old-growth stuff. I just can't get over the color. It is exactly what I was looking for as far as color- a buttery yellow. Should look great with some Goldspar on top of it. I bought a new resaw blade just to be sure I do this one right. I am a little nervous about resawing such an expensive board.

I believe everything in life is a trade-off. You kind of have to decide what is most worth it to you, and whatever you choose you have to enjoy it as much as you can. If I lived where you live I'd have a huge timber-framed workshop and would be building a spruce airplane, cedar canoes/kayaks, and all sorts of other stuff; plus snowshoeing sounds kind of fun, if not a bit cold. The price I pay for always being in eyesight of the sea is limited access to lumber and no shop space. However, I do get beautiful Cuban Mahogany at reasonable rates, and for making handles and mallets Lignum Vitae grows locally.

I need a twelve-step program for wood sniffers. "Hello, my name is Malcolm, and I am addicted to the smell of cedar."
