It was bare wood until I ran a coat of thin expoxy to saok into the wood. Then I ran some thickened epoxy around the hole afterwards. I then cleaned it up with fine sandpaper. Worked out fine but you can oversize the hole first, fill it with epoxy and then drill that out afterwards - which is the way a lot of people go.
