: So I have this gorgeous piece of teak lying around and will soon
: have another boat that needs a riser and ring. Last boat (great
: auk) I used cedar pieces for the riser and ash, heat bent, for
: the rings (laminated). I did a test last night with
: 3/8"wide x 1/4" thick strip and I used a heat gun to
: wrap it around a 14" diamater tube with success. HOWEVER,
: when I went to glue it I had, er, issues.

: Any tips? I've heard about washing the wood with alcohol or ?? to
: extract the surface oils, but haven't found an authoritative
: source yet.

: Thanks in advance!

Scrub the surface to be glued with acetone and a scotch brite pad (wear gloves), when dry glue, don't wait the oils will seep back to the surface.
