I did an experiment with some scraps that are gued together. I put them in a coffee cup with hot tap water and they came apart in about 5 minutes. So I think I could put hot water on shop towels and lay the towels in place and add more heat with the iron. The only problem I see now is there will not be a way to reglue it. Once it has dried again maybe I could get some Crazy Glue to wick into the joint. Or just leave it since there is only about 8" of it.

Or I just clean up the area and leave it as is. Then fill it with epoxy later.
