: A fill coat would be best for a newbie as you said. Rob M. has a
: good proceedure that i would recommend at laughingloon.com. I
: hope it is ok for me to mention his site because his method sure
: helped me improve my glassing.

The fill coat is subject to personal choice. I have never used a fill coat and have built 6 boats with no problems at all. I have always laid out the glass on the deck, made sure it was straight and flat, then poured the epoxy on top of the glass and either rolled it or used a squeegee to spread it. I think so of the folks here even use a wide paint brush to spread the epoxy around before smoothing it with a squeegee oor roller. The epoxy should soak right though the glass into the wood very well, assuming you are working at a minumum of 70 F or 20 C. I have found that working close to the lowest possible temperature slows down the absorption of epoxy a bit much, so it doesn't soak into the glass/wood as quickly as I would like. Use moderate pressure on the squeegee when smoothing the glass/epoxy so as to get a nice even finish while avoiding starving the glass of epoxy. I think you will do just fine, you know what needs to be done, everything material you use is designed to do what needs to be done to get the final look, so trust in that, work with it as suggested and you will get what you want, a pretty boat. Remember one thing: each batch of epoxy you make starts setting after a certain amount of time...keep that in mind while you work.
