: I couldn't post to the 'design' forum, so here I am :)

: I'm interested in building the Guillemot Expedition Single, however
: I have a few concerns:

: I am 6'2", Approx 200 LBS, my inseam hasn't been properly
: measured, but I wear 32" in pants (but where does the waist
: sit, you ask!) and my feet are exactly 12" (1') bare.

: I live in Florida, and I'm looking for a touring sea kayak to
: build.

: I just want to know if I am too large for the Guillemot Expedition
: Single, and if so, what drawbacks does the Guillemot
: "L" have over the Guillemot Expedition Single?

: Also, while I may normally be paddling in warm water, I want to
: take this kayak out of state and perhaps into cold water. This
: means I may be wearing waterproof boots while paddling, just to
: keep this in mind.

: Thanks for all the help!

Hi

I'm 6'1" and 273 lbs (sigh ...), feet 11".

I've build both kayaks, and I like them both.

Expedition L ( in my case VLE, very large experimental) :-)
I measured a little wrong, and as a first time builder with extreme bad carpenter skills, I did a lot of "not-so-good-things".
Big, very stable on flat water, very roomy, turns very easy when rudder is up, tracks normal when rudder is down. Large volum in front makes it chopping when paddling straight against the waves, but you have a dry ride. It became "unstable" when waves comes from the side, because it is floating "too" good.

Expedition Single, my second build.
This one is big too, but a little bit narrow to me now. (I grow thinner, I suppose, these days). It feels a little bit tippy on flat water, but is my favorite in rough sea. Then it feels very stable. It is more "sharp" in both ends, cut through the waves and it did not notice waves from side. Tracks good without rudder. It is a little more tricky to build because of the sharp ends, but if I could do it, everyone could.

Here's how I transport the L down to the shore:

And it is beautiful on the water in winter:

Foregive me my bad english, I haven't written it for years.

Regards
Tom
