Skin-on-Frame: Amount of flotation

Hi all,
I'm at the stage in my build to add flotation to my Gentry Chuckanut 12. My question is this: should my flotation be from the stem to the first frame or should I go all the way to the second frame, which forms the front of the cockpit? I assume I would repeat this in the rear.

How high should I go with the flotation, all the way to the bottom of the deck stringers or would up to the top of the second chine be sufficient?. Sorry I don't know the terminology yet.

Can I overdo it and adversely effect the stability. I have access to small cell styrofoam and other flotation materials. I also can use flotation bags too.
Thanks
Jim Adams
