: First: I read that epoxy needs to be warm and as thin as water to

Looks like your resin was setting up as you rolled it on.

I've been surprised by this "sticky resin" problem one time or two, when I just used
some resin out of the mixing cup to touch up something else, lost track of time,
and then realized I was supposed to be pouring this batch in the roller pan and noticed
it was very sticky.

This is why I never mix more than a 6 oz. batch. And don't pick up the phone, or get distracted.

How large a batch of resin and hardener did you mix up and how long did it sit in the
mixing cup before you poured it in the roller pan?

I use System Three regular resin most of the time. I'm just trying some MAS and
the set-up times are dramatically different. Six to eight hours to tack free at 85˚
for slow hardener with System Three. Two to Three hours to tack free with slow
hardener and MAS at 80˚.

I don't know what kind of time you could expect with West's slow hardener at 80˚.

If you heated your shop to 80˚ for six hours you didn't need to heat anything else,
if your resin and boat are in the shop.

If you had a large batch of resin that was heated over 80˚ poured in a pan heated over 80˚
this could account for your faster than expected set-up of "sticky" resin.

Your resin should be watery thin for a good wet-out.
