: I recently took on a small project for a customer that had issues
: with epoxy and tried an ecopoxy but still had reactions. I have
: been looking into this product as well since I have been around
: standard resins for 13 years now. No reactions with precautions,
: thank goodness.

: She told me that although the resin meets eco standards she
: understood that the hardener may not. Is this true? It looks
: like the hardener which is obviously necessary is still a
: dangerous chemical to be in contact with either by touch or
: breathing. I read the MSDS for the hardeners on their web site
: and it lists similar precautions to standard epoxy. What is your
: take on it?

You hit the nail on the head. That's my understanding as well. It's an amine-based epoxy where the resin is partially derived from nuts and grains instead of petroleum. It's supposed to marginally safer due to the lack of certain heavy metals in the petroleum-based resins but you still have the sensitizing amines like regular epoxy. Epoxy is epoxy. If it didn't have the amines they'd have to call it something besides epoxy. Ecopoxy is just a "greener" formulation. As long as you treat it like regular epoxy it's very nice epoxy. They're website is a bit misleading...

Notice the quotes around "green." I, for one, am not a big fan of the "green" label when marketing products that are supposed to be friendlier to olde Mother Nature. You can call anything "green." That's a discussion for another thread...
