Agreed! I did find out on voyage 2 that the do float!!

I'll doing 2 things:
1. a short leash from the inside of the hatch to the inside of the boat
2. a small tab at the front of the hatch that "clips" the edge of the hatch under the hatch ring.

I am unsatisfied with the holding strength of the magnets once the gasket was installed.
While i figure out how to solve this on my next boat I am going to try to avoid a deck strap.
