: Only from the inside when I am too far from shore and really need
: to pee, Bill. That is the only leaking I want outta my boats.

: I got that thrill, Bill, three years ago when I headed onto the
: river during early spring. I made it out to the middle of the
: river when I noticed that my legs seemed a little cooler and
: wetter than normal. I pulled back the skirt and to my horror the
: cockpit was filling with water. I bee-lined it back to shore and
: discovered that when I tapped the kayak on an ice ledge to test
: it for strength, I must have banged her too hard...split the
: hull quite nicely and even partially broke a bulkhead. I was
: fairly nonplussed about it through...went home, duct taped the
: hull and was on the water the next day. Left the duct tape there
: for three months just to see how long it would last.

Duct tape makes an amazing repair. Last year friend of mine banged up his Romany in the spring and it sported a duct tape patch for the whole paddling season before he had time to repair it properly. Hundreds if not thousands of miles paddling and countless rolls too.
