I like Bill's idea using vinyl tape. If the objective is to make a maroon canoe easily visible to a rescue crew, some creative striping with different widths of vinyl tape would not only be easy and effective but very inexpensive. Also easily removed.

White, yellow or lime tape stripes on a maroon canoe would make it stick out like a sore thumb. I've got two large red NRS Bill's Bags ( waterproof packs) I use on canoe trips. I striped them with a few bands of yellow vinyl tape so they would be easy to spot on group outings. Did the same thing with blue painters tape around my black luggage so I can spot it on the carousel at the airport.

I'd put a set of wild stripes on that maroon canoe that nobody could miss!!!
