: I'm ordering one to try in a Wilderness Systems Zephyr, should be
: able to report in a week or so. Its a light coloured boat thus
: should yield good interior photos.

: Pat tailors each kit and specs the hardware mounting kit to the
: width of your hull at the normal foot brace rail mount holes.
: I'm just getting ready to send him my data now.

: I use padded bulkheads in my strippers and S/G boats and just hate
: the braces every time I get in one of the plastic kayaks.... and
: I think I've tried every brand of brace known to man. I've a
: rather large box of assorted braces sitting in my garage :)

I talked to Pat at length on Friday and learned that his foot plate requires side rails that are parallel meaning the width between the rails is the same front to rear. Since all kayaks get narrower from the cockpit forward, the hardware kit allows you to bring the aft mounting points of the rails inward from the sides of the kayak so that the fixed width foot plate can move fore and aft. If you have the mounting bolts bonded to the inside of the hull like I do (and like most wood builders use), you can't get your rails parallel without some surgery on your boat and then use thru-hull mounting hardware.
