: If you can get by with a larger opening and he is going to be
: paddling flat water I found that a large cockpit is preferable
: for a fishing boat. It gives a place to lay your rod or paddle
: without fear of is sliding off the boat. Yo can a tackled box or
: what ever at your feet. I wasn't sure till I fished from it but
: this is the way to go if you not going with a SOT. While mine is
: not strip built you might get an idea from this. I have fished
: from my kayaks, then built a canoe and then I built this. This
: is my favorite fishing boat.

: I did a raised coaming to keep water out and I have no intentions
: of a skirt on this boat so no lip. I actually find this boat a
: bit awkward to get in and out of because of it's width. I can't
: straddle it comfortably.

Thanks Jeff. I had seen your boat before on this forum, and it incorporates a lot of the things I think a fishing boat should have. I have talked myself into a lip, mainly for lateral strength and so my father has a good hand-hold on the boat.

Regarding the width - how wide is it? and how hard is it to get into? Do you need to sit on it like a couch, then swing your legs in? My boat is ~30 inches, and I do not think this is stradle-able, particularly in a foor or two of water.

Any other pointers for a fishing yak?
