: No, but that is VERY interesting. Something similar to what I have
: ultimately have in the back of my mind. What size sail is that?

: For now I am thinking of retrofitting an existing boat and learning
: from it. Than I might work on something else. This really got my
: attention.

I use sails between 5.5 and 7.5 sq metres on the boat. Bill is right' a kayak rudder would be totally useless with the rig, I am using a full sized rudder and the first one I made had the pintles ripped out of the head due to me underestimating the forces on it.

If you are considering a daggerboard, it is worth going for a pivoting centreboard. Easier to balance the helm under differing points of sail.

Try to get an old old windsurf board, but a short board (1990 vintage perhaps or even a bit older, very cheap:). The more modern ones have short mast tracks, the older ones have longer tracks to canabilize. You might want to pick up sails from a mor recent time, within the last 10 to 12 years or so. Also very cheap.

I used the tops of two carbon masts for shrouds and a rotating mast clamp to secure them to the mast. The masts tend to break at the boom, so there are plenty of usable tops around these days.

The rig likes to be raked back for best effect, which looks cool and makes the rigid shroud viable.

The rigid shroud seems to distribute load from gusts nicely to the cross member and onto the outrigger, rather than stressing the connection points at the hull. A happy side effect.

Food for thought I hope.

I need to take the trimaran out more often, but the kayaks are so darned simple to put on the water that they get to go out a lot more.
