I'll ditto Allan's comments: I would not choose a BP for an ultra-light flat-water kayak. About the only thing going for it in that regards is that the ultra-low volume minimizes the total surface area. If it was me I'd design something that was about 16' LOA, with vertical bow and stern, low sheers, a fairly rounded hull and a low-volume deck. Sounds about like a typical K1.

Bill, love your idea of the hybrid strip hull/fabric deck. The CT-18 "Elsie" that I built in 2009 was built with a strip hull and 18oz reinforced vinyl deck. At 28 pounds, it ended up weighing about the same as the BP's. The hull was nice and light but it could have used a much-lighter deck. For a light build a single layer of 4oz Dacron sealed with varnish could have been sufficient. I've also thought about using some coated nylon or even Gortex. That stuff weighs around 4oz per sy ready to go.
