Skin-on-Frame: polyester with Zar finish

So I put the novelty clear vinyl on my Yost Sea Cruiser this spring, and I'm about done with it now and thinking about re-skinning after bottoming out on some sharpish rocks on a paddle last week. Here's my question...... I've done one Polyester boat and finished it with Rustoleum oil based paint. when I sewed the polyester, I didn't sew it on super tight, but it was snug. After shrinking, I had some pretty large "pull" holes from the thread that required a fair amount of thick paint to fill. If I go with Zar on the next polyester skin, will it fill these holes OK? Should I be sewing the polyester on looser? Any guidelines on how tight to snug this up while sewing? I noticed there are a number if different options with the ZAR polyurethane. Is there a specific type I should use?
