I made a similar mistake. I drafted my chine placement the wrong dimensions by accident. I had already drilled the holes for the cutouts before i realized it. My cross sections width was 3/4"-7/8" at the chine instead of 1". My solution was to glue a 3/4" x 2" piece of 3/8" ply across the narrow spot. Cross sections could take my full body weight compressing them after that. I've placed them so that the scabs face the bow and the stern so that no one will ever know my mistake...
