Epoxy: Fiberglass floating

I just did my first fiberglassing ever on my Njord build, laying two 3.2 oz glass layers (at once) over a sealer coat of epoxy. I squeegied the entire hull several times on the wet-out coat but must have left a little too much epoxy because I ended up with quite a few bumps that seem to be the fiberglass floating. I'm doing a black graphite hull so am not too worried about the aesthetics of it so can I just even things out with the fill coats, maybe with microballoons added for thicker coats that don't add too much weight (was already going to add some silica, too), or do I need to cut out the bad spots & patch or something.

On a separate note, when I added small fiberglass strips on the stems I had trouble with the edges of the glass fraying. How do you avoid this?
