S&G: 11.5 mm vs 17.5 Plywood

The plans call for 1/2" plywood for the frames (Dave Gentry's Disko Bay). The plywood sizes I have readily available are 11.5mm and 17.5mm. The 11.5 is just shy of the 1/2 required. In the meantime I picked up the 17.5 as I'd rather overbuild instead of ever-so-slighly underbuild!! I am not that concerned that the wider frame will affect the longitudinal curvature of the gunwales and chines.

The plans call for leaving at least 1" of material around the frame perimeter after cutting out the centres. I'm thinking that if I go with the 17.5mm I should be able to reduce this slightly. But, by how much?

Any comments/suggestions?
