Epoxy: UV Protection alternatives...

I bought and just received Nick's book "Building Strip-Planked Boats" and am into Chapter 2. Reading about Epoxy at the moment.

I know that it must be protected from sunlight, and that most people paint or varnish to do so.

As an alternative, it seems to me that automotive carnauba or other high-solids quality wax would be another option, even if it meant having to apply more frequently. Is this something that anyone has tried? It would certainly also help with reducing friction... It is designed to protect automotive paint (usually an epoxy of some sort these days) from UV damage, after all. And it weighs absolutely nothing... Although anytime you hit sand you'd need to re-apply.

Just curious.
