I feel honored to received one of your "word plays".

In keeping with the strip build all the designs are 1/4" solid figured redwood and claro marbled walnut. This was all built on a "sub-deck" of pine. The sub-deck is used to support the small pieces and provide a way of holding the flame tips until the rest of the deck is filled in. The white you see is a full-size paper pattern of the design.
There is no veneer or stain used in this kayak.

We vacationed in the Outer Banks, NC and this water is the Cape Hatteras National Seashore on the Atlantic Ocean, Far far away from Illinois.
