: Has anyone used Cyprus for stringers in a SOF boat. I am gearing up
: to build one as soon as I finish my current strip project and
: have some clear Cyprus lying around. I know Cyprus is heavier
: (approx 34% - Specific Gravity of .510 vs .380 for Cedar). Is
: the weight the only consideration? Should I just suck it up and
: buy some Cedar?

: Thanks for any insight...

Hi Bob,

I have used cypress many times on Yost type skin on frame builds. The added weight is just a pound or two. That can be offset my making the stringers 5/8 instead of 3/4 thick. Cypress is also very rot and insect resistant, which is a plus an a SOF.
