Hi Bill et al,
I find it easier and better to extend the paddle away from shore, I use a GP mostly but it saves the blade edge on my EP as well.
The few times I tried having the blade onshore as I got in, I got wet.
Water moves up and down, the land doesn't, interesting leverage there. With the blade in the water, kayak and paddle are moving more or less the same.

Nice work. The pictures with the flat finish look are quite nice. I like the effect.
