: Rob,

: I can see the merit to the points you were making regarding Bob's
: suggestion, and I realize that you might have been joking with
: your "old guy" remarks. But the tone of your post was
: overly harsh and unnecessarily condescending. I happen to know
: that Bob is not a novice builder and is very meticulous. He has
: built some high quality strippers and SOFs. If I'm not mistaken,
: he's also one of your customers as he recently purchased plans
: from you for his next build.

: You're very knowledgeable and I look forward to reading your posts,
: but you could have done much better this time. As a potential
: customer of yours, it makes me think twice about doing business
: with you.
: Regards, Mike B.

As Rob observed, it is easy to misinterpret the tone of a post. After reading your post, I had to go back and read Rob's original comment a second time because my original reading certainly didn't seem to justify the response it prompted.

I had read Rob's comments with a particular mind set. I regarded the original suggestion of using the Dremel as an idea fraught with several serious problems. In fact I thought it was a crazy idea and had considered responding myself but decided to wait in the hope that someone whose opinions were held in high regard would comment.

The fact that Rob was saying something similar to what I wanted to say about the unsuitability of the Dremel for that job made it easy for me to accept his post in the spirit in which it was intended. I found his post entertaining and informative and much more diplomatic than the response I had considered posting myself.

For what it is worth, I have had great success using a cabinet scraper to feather the edge of the tape and to smooth out any other bumps. I like the way it can be used to do the job before the epoxy is cured enough to be able to sand. It doesn't create as much dust as a Dremel either. :-)

I am not trying to be argumentative. I'm just trying to demonstrate that this seems to be another situation where the tone of a post has been misinterpreted.
