Got the PL Premium applied. It went well, I suppose, and I think I'll use the PL Premium again. I found it hard to apply at first, but grew quite a bit better at it by the time I finished. I think the secret is to get it really thin... just enough to coat the fabric, but thin enough so it doesn't bubble. Look at the sheen at just the right angle, and you can see whether the weave's filled or not. Apply it too thick, and you can see the color change from off-white to tan/brown.

As a result of applying it too thick in a few spots, I've got some bubbles and ridges. I don't think it'll affect performance much at all (betcha my lack of paddling skills will affect it more *grin*). It's not the prettiest when you get up close to it. Move a few feet away, and the blemishes disappear. We'll see how bad it is after I've got her painted.

I attached the coaming, too. Seein' as the laid up coaming rings total 1-1/2" thick, I picked up some brass screws 1-1/4" thick. It didn't make much sense to run the screws down from the top, as the bottom ring is only 1/2" thick (leaving only 1/4" gripped by the screws). I drilled six holes in the base plate, positioned the coaming lip, marked the holes, drilled to the right depth, then ran the screws up from the bottom. It's not perfect, but they won't show from the top of the coaming, and there's plenty of purchase.

I'm itching to get her into the water. I'm off on a business trip 'til Friday, so I'll be forced to wait out the week or so while the PL completes its cure, per Locktite's recommendations. Slap some paint on her, get the deck rigging installed, and she'll be ready to put in. After I buy/build float bags, a PFD, and a spray skirt. If the water's not warm enough for swimming by then, I'll be looking at a wet suit, too. Oh yeah, and lessons. It's still cheaper than running a powerboat up and down the lake.
