Your bend looks like it has a few problems, which is what I would expect from fir or other white wood construction materials. And 'real' ribs should be at least 1/4", making it even more problematic. Keep in mind that not only do you have to bend the wood, but you have to bend lots of ribs to a fairly specific shape in order to make a fair curve. I would also expect you to have a lot of breakage trying to get to the number of ribs that you need.

The short answer then is to forget about it and get some tried and true ash or white oak etc. The long answer is "go for it". Get it out of your system. Not only will you learn the bending properties of white woods, but the next time someone comes up with the idea to do the same, you can tell them authoritatively that it won't work very well.

Don't ask why I know that.
