: On a related topic, I have a design in my computer with plank
: developments. It would be quicker to have full-size outlines
: than measure from XY tables but the guy who used to do large XY
: printouts is no longer in town. I could print the planks on
: legal paper from midships to one stem, since they're
: symmetrical, and get them blown up x6 on a local copier that
: will spit out 36" wide copies of any length. Anyone
: tried this approach, or any other ideas?

Progress report:

I took a 8.5 x 14 printout of my plank developments to Quickprints and had them trim off half of the plank lengths - since the 2 halves are identical - and blow up the rest. They were very helpful and it cost $20 for about a 7' x 3' printout with an intermediate image stage. The line thickness is about 1/8". The outside of the line is the correct size but it's fuzzy - not surprising for a x11 blow up.

I think I can get the line thickness below 1/16" and crisp enough to use, if I use the longest paper the printer will accept, print only half of the plank length, sharpen the edges with my digital photo application and select a lower quality printout for a finer line. The larger original image size will eliminate the need for an intermediate image. Then I'll cut some test planks from cheap door ply and see if they go together. If so I can use them as stencils for a build. I can use the same trick to get full size stem profiles.

I'm not ready to start yet, too many almost finished boats cluttering up the workshop, but I'll post pics when I am ready . . .
