Hi Jack,

I agree, this is a great forum. I've only made a few posts myself but I've been following discussions here since I started my build and learned many things that kept me from making many mistakes.

I followed the plans in Nick Schade's book, "The Strip-Built Sea Kayak" for the pedals. I varied it slightly by using cedar panels for the foot pads because I didn't have any marine grade plywood on hand. The disadvantage with doing this is the cedar is more fragile than the plywood so I reinforced it with some fiberglass. Nick's design also calls for some hooks and a loop of rope to make it adjustable and I've changed that by using a nylon strap from the pedals to the front of the seat.

There are picture of the pedal construction on my Facebook page which you can see here:
https://www.facebook.com/album.php?fbid=1613652431399&id=1538964097&aid=89606&l=e3f5ad13c6
(the pedals are ~3/4ths of the way down the page).

It looks like it will be while before the Maine weather will cooperate so I can launch the boat, so I'll just take some better pictures of the aft deck tomorrow. I used poplar for the lighter wood in the design (everything else was red cedar of lightly different shading) and used the diagonal strips on the fore deck as an homage to the Great Auk (their bills had light stripes).

: Hello

: First of all, and since it's my first post on this forum, I'd like
: to thank all of you for putting up such a great forum, and
: filling it with an impressive amount of information.

: More specifically to Lynn, congratulations for your beautiful boat.
: I do like the little stripping details that you added (I hope
: that you understand what I mean, english not being my mother
: tongue) and would love to see a view of the aft deck (hopefully
: with you in the boat, and the boat in the water...). I am
: presently working on my first build, and I plan on making a
: rudder as well at some point. Would you care explaining how you
: made your pedals (or what design you followed) ?

: Jack
