I did a search for local suppliers of plywood in the area, on a whim. The "big local" lumberyard stocks MDO, but they're a good twenty minute drive away. I'd rather not pay U-Haul as much as the plywood to rent a truck to pick it up, and I'm not keen on the thought of tying it down to my wife's Outback Sport's roof rack (Gawd, I can hear her screaming already). My Outback's out of commission while I replacing a bunch of seals on it. I could have them cut it up on the panel saw to fit in the cargo space of her OBS, but I'm not sure how the parts are going to lay out, too. Rather than laminate a coaming, I thought it might be simpler to simply fabricate it from plywood like Tom Yost shows on his site. Three coaming rings eats up a lot of plywood. I don't want to short myself a large piece of plywood if I need it.

I emailed a wholesaler, who led me to a lumberyard not two miles away from my house that stocks MDO. The local college apparently bought up most of the stock, but they should have a sheet left over for me. They'll even deliver it for $10, too... cheaper by half than renting that U Haul pickup. I should be all set early next week to start fleshing out the frame. That pile of stringers in my basement workshop might start looking like a boat! I love this feeling!
