I had Gorilla Glue laying around, and I've worked with it in the past. Titebond (2 or 3) should be stronger, but I figure the GG is strong enough. When that first joint failed, the wood failed across the half of the joint that made good contact. I'll take that as evidence. The GG is supposed to be waterproof, too.

:So I applied 2-3 layers of floor-grade Minwax polyurethane that I had
: left over from doing our wood floors some years ago.

I've got left over Watco Danish oil from coating some cedar planking on a grill's side shelf. I'll probably use it, along with regular salt water rinsing each season.
