So the joint has to be perfect if I'm using polyurethane glue (Gorilla), near perfect if I'm using PVA (Titebond 3), and epoxy will give me a little more wiggle room.

I think if I wait a few weeks, the weather will turn warmer, to the point where I'll be comfortable epoxying. 'Til then, I'll keep experimenting with the Gorilla Glue. It did break the wood on half of the failed joint, so as long as I can get the joint perfect, GG will be strong enough, I figure. It's just the matter of getting the joint perfect.

I cleaned up and recut the joint this morning, then built a little jig to plane the joint surface. It came out quite a bit better than the last joint. I slapped on a little more GG on the joint surface, too... not too much, but enough to thinly cover the entire surface. I've got it clamped now.

I'll check it after work tonight... I suspect it'll be ok, just looking at how the first joint failed. I've got a better joint mate this time. As long as I didn't apply too much GG, I'm thinking it'll be ok. I do see myself cutting this stringer up for the deck ridges, though, and moving the scarf joints out to the end of the 8' lengths.
