: After a total of 5 coats I can see some glass weave clearly under
: the epoxy. It is along the stems were I had a hard time getting
: any depth of coverage due to gravity helping the epoxy run off.
: I thought I had a good wet out and did not notice the visible
: weave until after I glassed the inside of the hull.

: I tried another coat but the glass is buried under a layer of cured
: epoxy. Do I need to cut this section out? Is there any other way
: to fix this?

The only way to ensure you will have a transparent wet-out of the glass is to
work in a shop at 85˚ if you're using a regular epoxy resin. Even if you had
a special thin wet-out resin, I still work in a shop at least 75˚.

You must have a very thin resin, that stays thin for a long time, to wet-out every
twisted fiberglass fiber, EVERY time.

AND you must do the same for new glass added to seams and stems.

Check out my page on wet-out at; http://www.laughingloon.com/epoxy.html

As for the repair, I'd suggest glassing a test panel. Do it cold with temperatures rising
to see how bad it can get. Then do some patches to bad spots. I sand out imperfections,
but you must be careful to remove only glass and not expose bare wood or you'll get a
halo when you re-coat. And try the heat gun to remove the old glass. New glass patches
should overlap old glass by 1-1/2". Sure it takes more time to do a test panel but then
you'll know what to expect and do a better job on you boat.

All the best,
Rob
