: It could be sewn but the seam would be difficult to glass without
: getting it full of air bubbles. You could glue it the fabric to
: the frame either of two ways, either with the seaming glue used
: for sewing (seam stick I think is what it's called) or with
: contact cement, both work though I prefer using the contact
: cement, but it does color the Dacron which the seam stick
: doesn't. The seam stick doesn't hold real well on the Dacron,
: but once it's glassed it doesn't matter.

: Hmm... what's it cost... I usually am working from full gallons of
: epoxy so don't know for sure how much I use, I suspect that
: it'll take more than a quart kit and less than two. I use West
: brand 105/207 resin and I know that works, I've not tried this
: method with other resins but suspect they will work as well. I
: know Dan's done one (or more) and he uses another brand resin
: (forget which one). I've been using the 3.2 ounce tight weave
: glass from Thayercraft.com it's pretty cheap and works very
: well, though if you're going to have rough use you might want to
: double the glass on the bottom.

: The Dacron I get from Aircraft Spruce (aircraftspruce.com) when you
: get to the site, in the search block type in dacron and the
: uncertified fabric will pop up. Certified fabric can certainly
: be used but it's far more expensive and I don't think the FAA's
: gonna come inspect your kayak, so it's not needed :)

: I've not looked up the costs of any of this recently, not built one
: since the class I taught in the fall of 2010, been a little
: while.

: Any other questions feel free to ask, either here or privately :)

: Bill H.

It looks like 1qt of 105 is about $37 with shipping, and .66pt of 207 is $35 with shipping. Assuming these are the correct ammounts to mix together, and that I would need two of each, that brings the total to around $140.
The fiberglass looks to be around $46 for 25 yards (more than enough, but 50 yards is only $15 more if I was going to make a ton of boats). Then the fabric is around $4 a yard, which is about double what normal polyester is, for about a total of $20.

This brings the total for a single boat (with a lot of materials left over) to about $200.

The cost for a polyester/paint boat will probably be around $50-$70 depending on the shipping, and type of paint.
