: I've used pool noodles and ratchet straps on my truck with a cap,
: my van, and now on a wagon with a stock roofrack. Got 1000's of
: miles in big wind and bad weather, never had an issue with
: kayaks moving. Ratchet straps across the kayaks to do the bulk
: of the securing job, then I use a rope from the front of the
: kayak to the front of the car or truck, holds the front down a
: bit maybe but more for an indicator of anything that might be
: going awry up top where you can't see it.

Far better are non-ratchet straps. You can kill a kayak in a hurry with ratchet straps, have seen several that required very expensive repairs because of them also a couple that were not repairable (blew out the hull/deck joint) because of them. The straps only need to be snug to hold a kayak.
