Agree about laminating being a chore. I needed to get a set of ribs all exactly the same and curved just the way I wanted, which is hard-to-impossible with steaming. I ended up laminating clear pine over a jig that could do several at a time and they came out matched within about 1/16. I found I needed to dampen them about 1/2 hour before use (I was using Titebond III which tolerates damp wood well) and leave them overnight to dry - virtually zero springback. When I bent them dry I got about about 10% springback with 3 lams with some variation, the curve wasn't as precise as I desired and there were a few crush marks.

FYI I was trying to build a canoe without using ply stations as an experiment, using the ribs to define the shape instead. The ribs were glued to a ply bottom plank. It worked but not sure I want to go through the rib hassle again. However the boat is going to have a nice classic look with the ribs!
