: One of the woodworking magazines recently showed a drill press
: being used with a sanding spindle. They had a bearing mounted
: underneath the spindle to help support it. That give it more
: support against wood being pushed against it. I can't recall if
: this was a comercially produced device, or a shop made
: gadget--be it seems something which could be made at home. Buy a
: suitably sized bearing, mount it to a piece of plywood, bolt the
: plywood to the drillpress table with the bearing centered under
: the sanding spindle, and lower the spindle until it seated on
: the bearing.

: With the sanding spindle supported at both ends you have less wear
: on the bearings in the drill press.

Spindle sander is different, doesn't just spin, it also has an up and down stroking motion, does both at the same time. The sanding drums last much longer this way.
