My hatches are from Boreal Design - a Canadian kayak builder that manufactures their own rubber hatches as well. They are a very supple rubber that never gets stiff - even in sub zero weather. Also, unlike the Valley hatches, you don't need a special tool, i.e., modified paint can opener, to open them at the best of times - let alone when they're freezing cold!

I have a 8" dryhatch ($55.00) , a 10" front hatch($61.00) and an 11x16 oval for the rear ($114.00). These prices include the rims as well. Like Bill said, they're not cheap. They're also a bit heavy but I'm willing to make those sacrifices for a watertight hatch that's pretty easy to install.

Application of 303 Protectant should extend the life of the rubber. If not, it's simply a matter of buying new covers.

Cheers,

Sean

: I like rubber hatches, they arn't by far the least expensive option
: though, good quality rubber hatches are pretty pricy.
