I glue them on with thickened epoxy. I have never had one come off and I have used them for 15 years. There was some talk once of the epoxy softening in very hot conditions, so if you are planning on painting it black and paddling in Death Valley, maybe not.

I will continue to use them, even though they are quite a lot of work.
