My son "borrows" any electric hand tool I may own, wears it out, and then buys a replacement, which is then his. He has a lovely collection of tools in his van.

Now my son has a complete collection of his own I have started replacing mine. I make a point of getting a new tool when I start any new project. That way they accumulate at an affordable rate.

Of course, one wants to encourage the next generation in their creative pursuits, so what's a hand tool here and there.

Unfortunately, we also share an identical shoe size. Of course this means that I can never hang on to a decent pair of hiking boots.
"Hey dad, can I borrow your boots for a day or two, mine are worn out?"

Well I did it to my dad too.
