Other: Rust - kayak carrying

I used to live near the beach and could wheel my kayak down to the sea, or drive a short distance to a river mouth, so I never worried about salt on the car, but now, I live further away and I need to roof rack the boat to get to the water. Has anyone had any problems with rust on the car as a result of the salty water dripping on it? Just wondering because I keep washing the car down after I come back and I'm wondering if I need to :)

Cheers,
Bohdan
