: The firemen were fantastic. As soon as I spotted the fire I moved
: everyone out, grabbed a wireless phone, put the dogs in the van
: and phone 911. By the time I sent my wife out of the way and
: moved the van across the road the fire marshall was turning into
: the street with a cop on his tail and the fire truck seconds
: later. By this time there were flames coming through the roof; I
: turned and spoke to the marshall to inform him everyone was out
: of the house, and when I turned back the fire was out.

: Pretty good response I would say, I doubt there was 10 minutes
: between the call and extinguishing the fire. It was scary seeing
: the fire advance from a little black smoke to roaring flames in
: such a short time.

: The major excitement was the neighbour on the other side, p!ssed as
: a newt, who tried to drive his car out of his driveway and
: clipped the fire wagon. His guest (a fomer neighbour) wanted to
: open the garage door to let the smoke out ... also stinking
: drunk. I might add they are not typical of the neighbourhood,
: maybe just the effect of living next to me.

Sounds like a good job done and lots of live entertainment. I hope you didn't loose too much. Good call on getting everyone out first. It's amazing how fast it grows. We deal with a lot of calls where people are drunk. We did one years ago, an MVA roll-over where two guys rolled a Blazer up the median strip of a divided highway section. We were treating one guy who'd been ejected and was on his hands and knees, the position of most comfort for a broken pelvis. The contents of the truck, along with both occupants, was strewn up the grassy stretch. Neither guy was really badly hurt, but both were pretty wasted. There was an open 40 oz. bottle of rum beside this guy. I pointed it out to the RCMP officer beside us, and he asks the guy "Is that yours?". He looks at it and says "I don't know where that came from".
