Just as with everything else in boat building, everyone has their own way, they're all valid, do what works best for you.

There are lots of good suggestions here, but one I haven't seen yet is hang loose. Relax, man. I mean, you don't want to get too casual with something like a table saw, but white-knuckling seldom does any good no matter what we're talking about. I expect you're probably stressing out a little since this is all new to you, so set up well, then try to shake the tension out of your shoulders, use some brain-to-eye-to-hand zen, and feed the saw the same way you paddle a kayak: authoritatively to be sure, but more with fingertips of finesse than fists of death.

It helps to eliminate BS, so use roller stands or equivalent to support infeed as well as outfeed. I use just one featherboard, to mash the board against the fence right at the blade. I swear by the Freud Diablo 7.25" 24-tooth carbide blade sold at the local hardware for ~$12.

But I think "zen" may be your answer. Relax. :-)
