: Just a suggestion for you- make the "stringers" or
: "crossbars"... the things you rest the kayaks on... out of stock
: that will fit Yakima or Thule accessories. Then you have lots of
: customizing you could do, including bike racks, and a roof basket like the
: Yakima Loadwarrior or Thule Moab. Even if you went with foam
: "noodles" for padding and did it on the cheap, at least down the
: road if you ever wanted you'd have the option of adding accessories.

: For the gear box make it out of wood to show off your skills. Maybe an arched
: top like a pirate chest.

My utility trailer uses bolt on risers (designed for car roof tops) from Yakima and uses standard Yakima cross bars. Works very well.

Personally if I had a choice I'd use the "rubber" suspension set up vs. springs, mine uses springs and the trailer is over sprung for when used for kayaks, but is able to carry two full size motorcycles. Downside to having one trailer having to do many things. Also use it to go get long lumber for cutting strips, trailer is 14' long with the oversize tongue.
