Re: Strip: ROS tearing wood
In Response To: Re: Strip: ROS tearing wood ()

I am using WRC. I decided to just chisel out a section of the entire strip (~4" long) and re-glue in a new piece. It doesn't look bad and only took about 10 minutes per damaged area.

Just something to watch for when using a ROS with holes in the sanding disks. I think now that it caught on areas that got fractured when pulling staples,, since all the breakage seems to start near a staple hole.

: Sounds like you're working on western red cedar. I've run into hairline
: splits
: in this wood that didn't show up until the strip was bent into place on the
: hull.

: The best thing you can do, if you can, is to glue the sliver back in place
: using
: yellow carpenter's glue.

: The next best is to carve a out a smooth V and match the wood color and glue
: it in place. The hard part is holding the patch firmly down.

: I do this by placing thin scrap strips across the patch held down with hot
: glue.
