The problem I foresee with applying a wax finish is the fact that you must remove all trace of wax in any area that you have to perform a varnish touch-up to repair any scratches that might occur during the paddling season.

I also don't want to spend a lot of time buffing and polishing to obtain a mirror finish that is going to pick up a few minor scratches once the boat is launched.

Imagine how that Jaguar owner would feel if his car got scratched the first time he drove it after all that polishing and waxing work!!!!! Things like that can and do happen no matter how careful you are.
