Which Varathane products are trouble?
In Response To: Re: Material: Varathane ()

: Don, I tried the Varathane water-borne finish and I was getting brush marks
: using a foam brush! I found that using a staining pad applied the best
: coats. It took at least 8 coats before it started to show a bit of gloss
: and two more coats to finish the job.

I'm curious as to exactly which Varathane products are givine people problems. There is a fairly wide range of materials which have the Varathane name on them, and those I've used have been great products. Mostly I've used the oil-based stuff, though.

So what is the exact name on the can of the stuff that is not working well?
They have a variety of water-borne urethane coatings which are designed for interior use, and a couple of spar varnishes--their premium spar varnish and their Diamond spar varnish. The Diamond Spar is waterborne and designed for exterior use, they say. Is that the exact one which people are unhappy with? The premium spar urethane is oil based. Are there any problems with that?

Just wondering
